Canadian Airport Security Awareness Program (CASAP)

Airport security is one of the major cornerstones of operating one of Canada's busiest airports.  As Calgary International Airport's (YYC) primary operator, the Calgary Airport Authority (the Authority) is responsible for the management, coordination, integration and implementation of the airports's security program and initiatives.  A key part of this is the Canadian Aviation Security Awareness Program (CASAP). This program is mandated by Transport Canada and must be provided to all employees located in the Air Terminal Building.

Canadian Aviation Security Regulations 2012, Part 4, Division 9, Section 191(2)(f) stares:

As part of its airport security program, the operator of an aerodrome must establish and implement a security awareness program that promotes a culture of security vigilance and awareness among the following persons:

  • persons who are employed at the aerodrome;
  • crew members who are based at the aerodrome; and
  • person, other than crew members, who require access to the aerodrome in the course of their employment.

The Canadian Aviation Security Awareness Program will initially be delivered in three formats, giving those who work at YYC plenty of options to complete their required training;

  • online training delivered through the TeamYYC website (www.teamyyc.com)
  • instructor-led training sessions located in the Silver Dart on Monday and Friday mornings. Reservations for these classes will be available through the TeamYYC website
  • organization-led group training
