Aircraft Certification Specialty Course

Who should attend

  • Transport Canada Aircraft Certification engineers and technologists
  • Design Approval Representatives (DARs)
  • Approved persons (or candidates) from delegated organizations

Note: this is a highly technical course; engineers or technologists working in this field will benefit from the ‘tip to tail’ concepts in this course. There is a pre-course quiz, two short quizzes and an exam all of which require a mark of 70% in order to obtain a certificate.

Non-technical staff should attend the Aircraft Certification Orientation course.

Transport Canada’s Learning Program Manager will assist participants in determining which course is right for them and direct participants accordingly.

Description

The course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive foundation in the regulatory framework, procedures and responsibilities governing the certification of aeronautical products in Canada. The course provides practical knowledge and skills used by regulatory engineers and industry delegates in carrying out the certification function. Topics covered are:

Part I - The Safety Framework

  • Transport Canada Civil Aviation Aircraft Certification
  • Regulations, Standards and Advisories
  • Delegation of Authority + SMS in a Delegated Organization

Part II - Type Certification

  • Type Certification Procedures
  • Changed Product Rule
  • Procedures for Changes to a Type Design

Part III

  • Instructions for Continued Airworthiness
  • An overview of MSG3
  • Aircraft Flight Manuals
  • Master Minimum Equipment Lists (MMELs)
  • Case Studies in Flight Test Engineering
  • Continuing Airworthiness + Aging Aircraft

Prerequisites

  • Transport Canada staff only: Delegated Officer Initial Training + one year experience working at Transport Canada
  • Others: be actively working as an engineer or technologists in the field of Aircraft Certification

  • 24 participants per course

Duration

  • 10 days over a two week period (the weekend in between can be used to review course material or enjoy the city in which the course is being held).

Changed Product Rule - Specialist Training

Who should attend

Certification engineers and engineering delegates involved in establishing the basis of certification.

Note: beginning in 2010, this course will be offered as part of the Aircraft Certification Specialty course. Persons taking Aircraft Certification Specialty in 2010 and beyond do NOT need to take this course separately. Persons who completed Aircraft Certification Specialty prior to 2010 may take this course as a stand-alone.

Description

This course is intended to provide participants with working level skills and knowledge required to apply the Changed Product Rule. The course is designed to allow participants to develop and practice the skills and identify and use the resources/tools and that will be required to implement the rule effectively.
